  • Current regular Individual membership in the MWPBA (or another recognized pipe band association) is required to participate in MWPBA sanctioned Solo Piping and Drumming events as a competitor or adjudicator.
  • Membership in a registered pipe band does not qualify you to compete in solo competition events.
  • Registering with the association does not automatically enter you in any solo contests at individual games; You must check the games’ sites for details and registration forms. The MWPBA makes a best effort to post links or contact information for MWPBA sanctioned games at the MWPBA web site.
  • Register as an Individual Member by March 31, 2020 to receive the reduced rate of $25.00.
  • You may register for Individual Membership online and pay using your PayPal account or credit card for no additional fee.
  • If you are changing solo grade(s), or are a new registrant at Grade 3 or higher, a Grading Petition must be separately submitted to the MWPBA Music Board, except where noted.  Your membership application will be held by the Registrar pending the decision by the Music Board.
  • If you have competed one year at Practice Chanter, you are automatically regraded to Junior or Senior Novice Piping. There is no need to submit a separate Regrade Petition in this case.
  • If you have competed one or more years at either Junior Novice or Senior Novice Piping, you may regrade yourself to Grade 4 Junior or Senior during registration.  There is no need to submit a separate Regrade Petition in this case.
  • Novice and Grade 4 piping is split into Junior and Senior divisions. Those 18 years old and over on January 1, 2020, are considered Senior.

  • If you are now in Grade 4 or above and want to compete at a higher grade, you must submit a Grading Application (also known as a Regrade Petition) to the Music Board on or before March 31, 2020.
  • Individual members of other pipe band associations registered for 2020 may compete in MWPBA solo competitions using their reciprocal membership, and do not need to also register with the MWPBA.
