Jim Enright, Sr.

We are saddened to announce the passing of Jim Enright, Sr. on Wednesday April 18th, 2012.

Jimmy was a founding member of the MWPBA as well as a long time member of the Shannon Rovers Pipe Band.  Jimmy was also a founding member of the Chicago Metropolitan Pipe Band and the Chicago Celtic Pipe Band.

Jimmy was a fixture in the pipe band scene and a past Board Member of the MWPBA.  Jimmy was always willing to help in any way he could. Jimmy's 4 children all currently play in pipe bands. Jimmy truly loved pipe bands. Jimmy's smiling face behind his bass drum will be sorely missed. What more can be said than Jimmy was a great friend and was a friend to many, many people. We will miss you, Jimmy Enright.

Jimmy will be waked on Friday April 20th from 3-9 at the Smith Corcoran Funeral Home located at 6150 N. Cicero in Chicago.  The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 on Saturday April 21st at St. Juliana's.

The 2012 Terry McHugh Memorial, results and recital

The First Terry McHugh Memorial Solo Piping Contest was held on Saturday March 24th, 2012 at the Scottish Home in Heritage Hall.  Well done to all competitors ready to compete in this second pre-season solo contest, and congratulations in particular to winners Else Kelley (Senior Novice 2/4 March), Bryan Jirsa (Grade 4 2/4 March), and Mary Thrasher (Grade 3 S/R).  The full results are available here

The contest was judged by world-renowned and respected adjudicator Bob Worrall, who many would also know as the "Voice of the Worlds".

That same evening, Bob performed an outstanding and well-received recital of light music and piobaireachd, and regaled with wonderful anecdotes and histories of tunes and sets performed.  In memory of Terry, proceeds from the event will go to help the Scottish Home and the American Cancer Society.

And if you didn't come on Saturday, well, Ye Missed Yersel's, as we say back in Scotland...
