If you are changing grade(s), or are a new registrant at Grade 3 or higher, you must submit a Grading Petition to the MWPBA Music Board.  Read the notes on regrade carefully and check the box on Grading Petition requirements.

  • All regrading Petitions must be submitted no later than March 31 to be considered for approval by the MWPBA Music Board.
  • If you have competed one year at Practice Chanter, you are automatically regraded to Grade 5 Junior or Grade 5 Senior Piping. There is no need to submit a separate Regrade Petition in this case
  • Grade 4 and Grade 5 Piping is split into Junior (under 18) and Senior (18 and over on Jan 1, 2025) divisions.
  • Pipers who have competed at least one season at either Grade 5 Piping Light Music (previously known as Novice) may regrade themselves to Grade 4 Piping Light Music without further justification.  There is no need to submit a separate Grading Petition in this case.
  • The Solo Registrar cannot approve regrade requests. This is the responsibility of the Music Board.
  • The Grading Petition form and complete grading information are available here.
If you are regrading, or are a new registrant at grade 3 or above, you are required to submit a Grading Petition. Your Membership application will not be processed until the Music Board makes its decision.
