The revised MWPBA Contest Rules and Regulations for 2013 is now available here.

Here is a summary of the revisions:

Section I.B

  • Band and solo re-grade requests will not be effective until 21 days after Music Board approval.

Section III.B

  • In tenor drumming, the grades are now divided into Advance, Intermediate, and Novice. All tenors previously in Open grade will be graded Advanced.
  • Bass drumming solos are now available and bass drumming is divided into Advanced and Novice. Bass drummers in Grade 4 or 5 bands may register in Novice Bass. Bass drummers in Grade 3, Grade 2, and Grade 1 bands may register in Advanced Bass

  • The revised table defines the music requirements for Solo Tenors in Advanced, Intermediate, and Novice grades, and the music requirements for Solo Bass in Advanced and Novice grades.

  • If you are a Game Sponsor, this section provides the recommended minimum scheduled time allotments for Solo Tenors in Advanced, Intermediate, and Novice grades, and time allotments for Solo Bass in Advanced and Novice grades.

Section VI.A

The MWPBA congratulates member Jack Williamson, 15, of Topeka, KS, winner of the March/Strathspey/Reel event at the Balmoral Classic US Junior Solo Bagpiping Championship in Pittsburgh the weekend of November 9-10, taking 3rd place overall.

Jack is one of just 15 pipers from nine states to be invited to compete in this prestigious contest. He was the only piper from the Midwest invited.

Along with the MSR, pipers competed in Piobaireachd. The overall contest standings were based on the combined results of the two events. The competition was adjudicated by Jimmy Bell, Jimmy MacColl and Donald McBride.

Jack is the MWPBA 2012 Champion Supreme in Piping, Light Music, and has been upgraded to Grade 1 for the 2013 season.  Jack is a member of the Kansas City St. Andrew Pipes & Drums.

The Balmoral Classic, hosted by the Balmoral School of Piping and Drumming, is an annual invitational contest for US citizens and US residents aged 18 and under.
